Project Clean Stream 2014
North East Isles
Project Clean Stream (PCS) 2014 at North East Isles was a great and successful effort with 20 to 25 volunteers including non-residents who signed up on-line.
1- Entire shoreline from east peninsula to past the Slope Repair (revetment) at buildings 9 & 10.
2- Stony Run Creek
3- Amtrak Bank and the Turtle Pond to the bridge
Two truck loads of bagged trash and 17 tires.
The Carpenters Point group had about 15 volunteers who cleaned up over 2 miles of Carpenters Point Road, about a mile of Mountain Hill Road, and about 1/4mile of beachfront. We took five truckloads of trash and a load of 20+ tires to the dump - 3180lbs!! We even discovered a den of baby foxes in the cliff along the shoreline. After a few hours of hard work we had a bonfire and cookout, then Happy Hour on the beach!
2014 was the first large-scale organized year for Project Clean Stream in Cecil County. We had a beautiful spring day and had 12 separate locations that were designated for clean-up. It was a great way to come together with our neighbors and clean up our community and our watershed.
From the 12 locations that turned in data, in a few short hours we picked up over 6.5 tons of trash and had lots of fun doing it! Project Clean Stream provided gloves, trash bags and safety vests, and Cecil County Department of Public Works provided the teams with waivers to take the trash to the landfill at no cost.
